LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Ricki Lake celebrated her top-scoring 23 points and 12 inches of weight loss; Nancy Grace celebrated some quick thinking in the control room; and Chaz Bono celebrated just getting through his routine on "Dancing With the Stars."

"My knees just hurt so much," Bono said before landing in last place Monday night. The author and activist is counting on viewer votes to carry him through Tuesday's episode, when a second celebrity will be eliminated from the hit ABC show.

Judges' scores are combined with viewer votes to determine who is ousted each week. Basketball star Ron Artest, now known as Metta World Peace, was the first contestant to go.

Judges said Monday that Bono's quickstep was just too slow and gave him 17 points out of 30.

"The bottom line is it's a quickstep and I've moved faster through the car wash," judge Len Goodman said.

Grace was perhaps moving a little too fast. She suffered a wardrobe malfunction during a bouncy number danced to "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing"). Grace had a little too much swing in partner Tristan MacManus' arms and her breast spilled out of her dress.

Viewers saw little if nothing of the mishap, however, thanks to a quick cut-away to the studio audience. After the number, host Tom Bergeron consoled the flustered Grace.

"On the European version," he said with a laugh, "that would be perfectly fine."

The 42-year-old Bono blamed his aching knees for forcing him to "(take) out some of the flashier stuff that was just really hurting my body," but said he'll push himself to the limit to stay on the show.

Lake's flashy moves during the jive earned her and partner Derek Hough the highest score of the night, and she's as happy about that as she is about her shrinking body. Lake, who said last week that she was inspired by former contestant Kirstie Alley's "Dancing" weight loss, has dropped four inches from her hips, four from her waist and another four from the rest of her after three weeks of rehearsals.

"I'm really getting in great shape," she said after the show. "I'll be wearing less and less clothing. The smaller I get, the less will be covered."

Rob Kardashian revealed his own weight woes before collecting 21 points for what judges called a "confident" jive.

"It's official. Rob Kardashian is a better dancer than (sister) Kim Kardashian!" judge Carrie Ann Inaba said Monday. (Kim lasted just three weeks when she was part of the show's 2008 cast.)

"You have the dancing gene," Inaba said.

Kardashian's 21 points were good for third place, where he tied with Grace, singer Chynna Phillips and Italian actress (and Clooney ex) Elisabetta Canalis.

Actor J.R. Martinez and reality star Kristin Cavallari both finished second with 22 points.

Joining Bono near the bottom of the scoreboard were actor David Arquette and TV personality Carson Kressley, who each earned 18 points.

Arquette said before his performance that he wanted to "blow people's minds," but the judges slammed his routine.

"Any connection that had with the jive was a coincidence," Goodman said. "The technique wasn't there."

Kressley turned in hours of extra rehearsal time, but his quickstep was still "a little wobbly," Inaba said.

Soccer pro Hope Solo scored 19 points for a jive that earned a mixed response from the judges.

The new "Dancing" set, however, which made its debut last week, is winning unanimous raves from the cast of pros. The revamped ballroom features a three-tier balcony, cocktail-table seating and a grand staircase that splits to reveal the orchestra.

"It's so epic. It's an honor to dance on it," said Mark Ballas, Cavallari's professional partner. "It's got a cool energy. You step out into it. It feels like a Roman coliseum."

NEPTUNE, N.J. - Disaster recovery officials continue to urge anyone affected by Hurricane Irene to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) - even those survivors who are receiving insurance settlements.?

Recovery officials in the field are finding that some residents who have accepted insurance settlements believe no further aid is available to them.

"We're committed to ensuring that every survivor receives the highest level of assistance for which he or she is eligible," said William Vogel, federal coordinating officer with FEMA. "Those who have not registered with FEMA - for whatever reason - risk losing that assistance."

There are expenses not covered by insurance.? For example, rental assistance is not covered under a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy.? An individual could qualify for a federal rental or repair grant if his or her residence was damaged.? Another grant might help a person cover unmet losses and necessary expenses caused by the hurricane.

"The only way to receive the disaster assistance you may be eligible for is to register," said Lt. Paul Miller, state coordinating officer with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management.

There are three ways to register - go to www.disasterassistance.gov, to m.fema.gov or call FEMA toll-free, 800-621-3362 (FEMA).? Those with access or functional needs and who use a TTY may call 800-462-7585 or use 711 or Video Relay Service to call 800-621-3362. Global leaders struggle to calm recession fears

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The world's major economic powers are pledging to launch a bold effort to deal with a chronic slowdown in growth and a European debt crisis threatening to push the global economy into another recession. But it was unclear whether their strong words would be backed up by equally strong actions.

The statement by the Group of 20 major economies was issued late Thursday and pledged that the countries, which represent 85 percent of the global economy, would do what was necessary to restore financial stability and clam financial markets which had plunged on Thursday over renewed fears of a global downturn.

The finance officials of traditional economic powers such as the United States, Japan and Germany and major emerging nations such as China, Brazil and India were seeking to demonstrate strong resolve in the hope that it will calm jitters that had sent financial markets down sharply. The United States was represented in the discussions by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.

"We are taking strong actions to maintain financial stability, restore confidence and support growth," the G-20 joint statement said. "We commit to take all actions to preserve the stability of banking systems and financial markets as required."

The G-20 group had not been scheduled to issue a statement after their working dinner but the turmoil on Thursday in global markets resulted in a change in plans. The group issued a one-page document that they hoped would demonstrate sufficient resolve.

The statement did little to reassure anxious investors. European markets fell sharply on Friday and Wall Street was set to open with further declines. In Asia, traders continued to dump stocks amid growing fears of a new global recession.

French Finance Minister Francoise Baroin told reporters the statement represented a "strong global" response to what he called a "very serious situation."

The statement was issued in advance of the start Friday of the annual meetings of the 187-nation International Monetary Fund and its sister lending organization, the World Bank. The discussions, which will wrap up on Saturday, have been dominated by the European debt crisis.

A senior U.S. Treasury official who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity to discuss the closed-door discussions said that all the G-20 countries felt there was a sense of urgency to take strong actions to deal with the financial market turmoil.

Investors are worried that Europe's debt crisis could destabilize the global economy at a time when growth has already slowed significantly due to a jump in oil prices earlier in the year and a pronounced slowdown in the United States, the world's largest economy.

The Dow Jones industrial average sank 391 points on Thursday, marking the second-straight day of massive losses on Wall Street.

IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said the world was entering a "dangerous phase" and World Bank President Robert Zoellick said he still believed the globe could avoid a double-dip recession "but my confidence in that belief is being eroded daily."

Greece could default on its debt next month unless it receives a $10.9 billion installment from a bailout fund managed by the European Central Bank, the European Commission and the IMF.

A default could destabilize other financially troubled European countries, such as Portugal, Ireland, Spain and Italy. It would also deal a blow to many European banks, which are large holders of Greek government bonds.

Major emerging economies including Brazil, India, China, Russia and South Africa said in a statement they would "consider, if necessary, providing support through the IMF or other international financial institutions" to address the European debt crisis. But the group played down suggestions that they would be willing to purchase government debt of troubled European countries.

Geithner said the United States has a huge stake in seeing Europe succeed and the G-20 group discussed proposals he has raised to expand the resources of the European bailout fund by using methods the United States employed during its own financial crisis in 2008-2009.

The G-20 communique spoke of trying to increase the flexibility of the rescue fund and maximize its resources but spelled out no specific ways to accomplish those goals.

The joint statement also said the G-20 nations planned to produce a "collective and bold action plan" to boost global growth and deal with high government debt to be unveiled in time for a summit of G-20 leaders including President Barack Obama in Cannes, France, on Nov. 3-4. However, the communique gave no hint of what would be included in the new action plan.

Europe has struggled to convince financial markets that it has the will to prevent a catastrophic debt default by Greece that could cascade to other highly indebted European countries and the United States has been unable to produce a long-term deficit reduction because of a deadlock between Democrats and Republicans about the role spending cuts and tax increases should play in the program.

Faced with the deadlock in Congress, the Federal Reserve on Wednesday said it will try to push long-term interest rates lower and make consumer and business loans cheaper by shifting $400 billion out of short-term Treasury securities and into longer-term bonds. Economists, however, doubt the plan will do much given that U.S. interest rates are already near record lows.

ERFURT, Germany?? Pope Benedict XVI met with German victims of sexual abuse by priests and expressed "deep compassion and regret" at the suffering of those abused by members of the clergy, the Vatican said Friday.

The pope met for half an hour with five victims on the second day of his four-day state visit to his native Germany, following an ecumenical service with members of the country's Lutheran church and an evening vesper held in a small chapel nestled deep in the former East Germany.

Germany's Catholic church has seen the numbers of faithful leaving the congregation jump, after hundreds of people came forward last year with stories of having been physically or sexually abused by members of the clergy. Church leaders had expressed hope that Benedict's visit could help heal wounds left by the scandal.

Benedict has been accused by victims groups and their lawyers of being part of systematic practice of cover-up by church hierarchy for pedophile priests, in his earlier roles as an archbishop in Germany and later at the helm of the Vatican morals office.

The Vatican said in a statement following Friday's meeting that the pope was "moved and deeply shaken" and is close to the victims. He expresses the hope that God "may heal the wounds of the victims and grant them inner peace," the Vatican said.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said the victims were two women and three men from all over Germany. He said the meeting was held in "very calm" circumstances and that a member of the hotline service set up by Germany's church to field abuse claims was also present.

The pope assured the group that church officials are "seriously concerned" about dealing with crimes of abuse and are committed to enact effective measures to protect children, the Vatican said.

The pope has had similar meetings on trips to the U.S., Australia, Malta and Britain, all hit by the worldwide sex abuse scandal that has plagued the Roman Catholic church over the past decades. In Germany, claims began to emerge in 2010.

Emmanuel Henckens of Belgium, a member of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests said the German meeting, "will make a handful of wounded individuals feel better for a while," but will do nothing "to stop priests from molesting kids, or bishops from concealing crimes."

Benedict started Friday in Berlin with a close-door meeting with leaders from Germany's Muslim community. He told them that he understood the "great importance" they placed on the religious dimension of life.

In one of his main themes, he then made a landmark visit to the Erfurt monastery where Martin Luther studied before splitting from the Catholic Church centuries ago and launching the Protestant Reformation.

In a sign of how far relations have improved between the two churches in recent decades, the pope praised Luther for his "deep passion and driving force" in his beliefs. But he didn't announce any concrete steps to achieve greater unity among Christians, as some had hoped.

During an ecumenical service held in the monastery's stone chapel, with soaring stained glass windows that date from even before Luther prayed here in the early 1500s, Benedict acknowledged there was talk before the visit that he would come bearing an "ecumenical gift."

Instead, the pontiff told an audience including representatives of Germany's Lutheran Church that such a belief was "a political misreading of faith and of ecumenism."

Leaders from both sides of the church were quick to underline that the pontiff's mere presence in the heartland of the Reformation was a key signal to how vastly relations have improved.

"It must be recalled that the pope has come to this monastery in Erfurt as a gesture that is an indication that he is fully aware of its meaning," said Thies Gundlach, a deputy in the German Lutheran Church.

Nevertheless, expectations from the Lutherans remain high, as the community looks ahead to celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of Luther's nailing his 95 theses to the door of the Castle church in nearby Wittenberg demanding change in the Catholic church that ultimately led to a split.

German Lutheran leader Nikolaus Schneider told the pope "it is time to take real steps for reconciliation" and suggested Catholics join Protestants in marking the anniversary of the Reformation in 2017.

Some Catholics and Lutherans have called for a joint commission to examine the Reformation and Luther's excommunication.

After a morning in the city, Benedict was flown by a German police helicopter to a small chapel nestled deep in the former East Germany, where he honored those Catholics who helped resist communist rule. A crowd estimated by organizers at 90,000 ? twice as large as expected ? filled the neighboring field in Etzelsbach, a popular stop for pilgrims.

The pope said Christians had sought spiritual comfort at the shrine during the "two godless dictatorships, which sought to deprive the people of their ancestral faith," referring to the Nazis and communists.

Benedict's visit has drawn protesters, many opposed to the Catholic church's views on homosexuality, abortion and other issues.

A demonstration in front of Erfurt's main train station drew only about 150 people Friday night, but about 9,000 people protested in downtown Berlin on Thursday.

Republican presidential candidate Gov. Rick Perry loves to tout the fact that 60% of the jobs created in the U.S. have been in Texas. But there?s a companion fact to this statistic he fails to mention.

According to a study by the Center for Immigration Studies, 81% of those jobs went to non-native born workers.

Among the findings:

• Of jobs created in Texas since 2007, 81 percent were taken by newly arrived immigrant workers ? both legal and illegal
• In terms of numbers, between the second quarter of 2007, right before the recession began, and the second quarter of 2011, total employment in Texas increased by 279,000. Of this, 225,000 jobs went to immigrants (legal and illegal) who arrived in the United States in 2007 or later
• Of newly arrived immigrants who took a job in Texas, 93 percent were not U.S. citizens. Thus government data show that more than three-fourths of net job growth in Texas were taken by newly arrived non-citizens (legal and illegal)
• The large share of job growth that went to immigrants is surprising because the native-born accounted for 69 percent of the growth in Texas? working-age population (16 to 65). Thus, even though natives made up most of the growth in potential workers, most of the job growth went to immigrants
• The share of working-age natives holding a job in Texas declined significantly, from 71 percent in 2007 to 67 percent in 2011. This decline is very similar to the decline for natives in the United States as a whole and is an indication that the situation for native-born workers in Texas is very similar to the overall situation in the country despite the state?s job growth
